JAMB ANNOUNCES CLOSING DATE FOR "DE" DIRECT ENTRY APPLICATION

The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board "JAMB" has recently announced that the long term availability of "DE" Direct Entry application form which has been on sale since since Dec 2017 is considered enough and as matter of fact, the application form shall close by June 4 2018.

This information was revealed to the news agency of Nigeria "NAN" by Jamb head of media and public relations Dr Fabian Benjamin.

He made it known that the closure of the application form is important so as to enable the board plan ahead of the 2018 admission processing which is scheduled to commence very soon. According to Dr Fabian about over 140,000 students have obtained the form so far and the form would still be available for the next couple of days.

“With the policy meeting coming up on June 26, which involves the Minister of Education and all stakeholders in the sector, the 2018 admission guidelines would be discussed and approved for the board.

“This includes both for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and DE.

“Therefore, candidates who are still interested and want to apply for the DE should use the window period of seven days to apply, as no extension of date will be granted.”

Similarly, Mr Benjamin said that the board has released the results of the mop up examination conducted for candidates, who were rescheduled for the UTME on Saturday, May 26.

Recently Jamb decided to permit few candidates who had issues with their exams and results to sit for a mob-up exam this past Saturday. Only candidates who are found free of fraud, illegality and exam malpractices were re-scheduled for the exam, while other who found themselves otherwise had their Results permanently cancelled by the boards.

However the results of candidates who pertook in this exam has recently been released.

Dr Benjamin also said that institution are to note that are not meant to make any advertisement of their admission processes until the policy meeting is held in June 26 2018 and the final decision is agreed upon by the board on how the admission modalities would go. He made it clear that institution who engage themselves in any form of admission before the policy meeting are violating and bridging the policy of the meeting and appropriate sanction shall be taken on such institution.

According to the spokesman, this is because the meeting is the only authorised body that approves admission process for every preceding year.

“Advertising before the policy meeting is a violation and abuse of the entire process.

“They must recall that at the meeting, all proceedings, rules and regulations guiding the admissions are discussed and unanimously approved by all stakeholders.

“However, a list of institutions that breached this rule are being compiled by the board and to be forwarded to the appropriate body for sanction.”

Mr Benjamin added that in view of the above, those who intend to make admission adverts before the slated meeting, are urged to have a rethink and halt.

He also noted that the 2018 policy meeting of the education sector was coming early to allow institutions begin early admission for 2018/2019 academic session.
